Upstream wellheads, midstream pipelines and downstream refining all move hydrocarbons under high pressure and temperature, often with sour or corrosive media and in classified hazardous areas. This solution consolidates the isolation valves, fire-safe shutdown valves, check valves, chemical pumps, flanges and gaskets a project needs into one procurement list — engineered to the right pressure class, material grade and certification, shipped as one order.
Hydrocarbon lines combine four demands that ordinary commercial valves and pumps cannot meet together. Each one drives a specific material, design or documentation choice — miss any and the item fails inspection or, worse, the line.
Refining and pipeline service runs Class 150 up to Class 1500, with sustained stream temperatures from −29°C on cold gas to +540°C on steam and hot oil. Bodies, bonnets and stems must be cast/forged steel rated to ASME B16.34, with bolted bonnets, OS&Y rising stems and metal or welded seats for the top of the range.
Class 150 – 1500 · −29..+540°CSour gas carries H₂S; process streams carry caustics, acids and chlorides that pit, crack and erode. Selection moves from carbon steel to SS316L, then to duplex 2205 / super-duplex 2507 for chloride service, low-temp carbon steel (LF2) for cryogenic, and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 qualified material for any wet-sour service.
SS316L · Duplex · NACE MR0175Valves on hydrocarbon lines must hold pressure during and after a fire — API 607 / ISO 10497 fire-tested — with graphite stems packing and metal-to-metal backup seats behind the soft seats. Ball valves on pipelines additionally need an anti-static device (ball → stem → body) per API 6D so static charge cannot arc across the ball.
API 607 · ISO 10497 · API 6D anti-staticEvery pressure-rated item carries a document trail: API 600 (steel gate/globe/check), API 6D (pipeline), CE/PED 2014/68/EU, ATEX 2014/34/EU for hazardous zones, and EN 10204 3.2 material certificates witnessed by a third party per heat and lot. Missing or mismatched paperwork is the most common reason a shipment fails EPC incoming inspection.
API · PED · ATEX · 3.2 MTCThe logic is driven by four inputs — function, pressure class, media and standard. Feed the working condition into the selector below and the bundle on the next section is what a compliant spec resolves to.
API gate valves do the primary isolation — full bore, low pressure drop, bidirectional, and the default refinery isolation valve per API 600. Their slow travel is acceptable on lines that are not cycled often.
Fire-safe ball valves handle emergency shutdown (ESD) — a quarter-turn closes fast, and the fire-tested seat + graphite packing holds the line during a fire event, which a standard soft-seated ball valve will not.
Swing check valves sit on every pump discharge to stop reverse flow and water hammer when the pump trips. SS316 chemical / centrifugal pumps handle transfer and dosing against corrosive media that cast-iron pumps cannot survive.
Weld-neck flanges and spiral-wound graphite gaskets close the joint integrity story — maintaining a seal under fire and thermal cycling where RF flat gaskets fail.

A petrochemical EPC contractor needed a cross-category hydrocarbon package delivered against a tight construction schedule, with API and Material 3.2 documentation accepted on first inspection.
Scope: API 600 cast-steel gate valves (DN100–250, Class 300), fire-safe SS316 ball valves for ESD stations, swing check valves on pump discharge, SS316 chemical pumps, weld-neck flanges and spiral-wound graphite gaskets.
Delivery was split into three batches aligned to the site construction sequence; each batch shipped with matched API 600 / 607 and EN 10204 3.2 documentation and passed incoming inspection without rework.
3 phased batches · API + Material 3.2 · single consolidated B/L per batch
